THE “WTF DO I WEAR?!” WARDROBE GUIDE
spoilers: whatever makes you feel like your favourite self
Congrats! If you’re here it means you’ve done the thing and finally booked the session you’ve been dreaming about. Now just one thing keeps popping into your head: “uh, what the f*ck do I wear!?” Don’t worry, I’m here to help put your worries at ease and help you plan for your dream session.
In our studio we encourage you to lean into being your favourite self – whatever that looks like to you.
There are no right or wrong things to wear for your boudoir shoot, this guide is meant to provide you with information about our studio, my shooting style, and the overall vibe of our sessions. Almost every single client is worried about what to wear – but your session is less about your wardrobe, and more about you! Hopefully this guide will help put your wardrobe anxieties to rest so you can step into your session as your fave self.
nothing & a sheet
By far the most popular outfit choice from our clients is none at all. We often pair this with drapery for the ultimate renaissance vibe. We have lots of fabric options to choose from in the studio to help create the vision of your dreams!
This might feel like an intimidating outfit option if you have never done a boudoir session before, and that’s okay. You are not obligated to go full nudie! It just happens to be the outfit most favoured by our clients. If you are unsure if you’re ready to bare it all, you can let us know and we will give you lots of time to opt in or opt out of the birthday-suit-experience during your session.
The nude portion of our client galleries tend to be their favourite images – because there are no clothes adding to the story or creating additional lines. These images often feel like the most representative of your true self.
traditional lingerie
For the more traditional lingerie connoisseurs, we recommend bringing a bra & panty set, and body suits. I recommend bringing at least one option of each, because we can create different poses with a bra and panty set than we can with a bodysuit. When compiling a list of potential outfits, make sure you have some non-racerback variations in the group. Racerbacks are great for support, but I love to play with strap placement in your posing and that’s not possible with racerbacks.
OUR FAVOURITE LINGERIE BRANDS:
Thistle & Spire (hands down my #1, their lingerie just fits different body shapes so damn well!)
Etsy (you can look for a lot of neat independent designers)
Hopeless Lingerie (edgier looks with full size customization available)
other options
Want to play a little bit with a certain vibe, or add something extra to your outfit options? Other great options to bring include:
Body jewlery
Robes & kimonos
Lounge bras & panties
Crop tops & jeans
Baggy button down shirts
Blazers
Dresses/slips
the client closet
Our studio started collecting some lingerie pieces to help supplement our client’s wardrobes. We have sizes ranging from XS-4X. At this time the closet is a quaint collection of pieces meant to help supplement the outfit options you bring with you. We have robes, harnesses, lingerie, and a collection of fabric.
couples & masc clients
Our studio offers sessions for every body – every gender, and couples. While we firmly believe that clothing is not gendered, we know some people aren’t planning on wearing lingerie for their sessions. So what do you wear instead?
Here are our faves:
Comfy underwear in good condition (boxers, lounge wear sets, etc)
White tank tops (bonus points if it’s an under shirt and we can cut it/rip it/or get it wet!)
Shirts and pants
Suits (uhmmmm hello power move much!)
Blazers
Button down shirts
Your favourite sweat pants
what not to wear
While planning your outfits, there’s a few things our studio simply doesn’t encourage putting in your bag for your session. Please note, that these are all just suggestions. If you feel strongly about any outfit, please remember that this is your shoot, and we will tailor it for your desires!
PROPS: We tend to lean away from props, especially props that are brought in for the benefit of someone else (jerseys, footballs, etc). You are not a product placement – and you deserve to wear that makes you feel good. This is, after all, YOUR session.
CORSETS: People think corsets make your waist look snatched, but in reality they dramatically limit your posing possibilites, and restrict breathing and make you feel stiff. If you like the renaissance/showgirl vibe, I suggest a properly fitted waist cincher.
