How to Emotionally Prepare for your Boudoir Session ~ [Victoria BC Boudoir Photography]

So you’ve booked your boudoir session, and you’re super excited! The dust from the initial excitement settles, and now the nerves are starting to poke their nasty little heads up.

Those little reasons why you kept putting this off keep getting more and more clear, and you can’t help but worry “Is this the right time? Am I ready?” The emotions are starting to get the better of you… and guess what? That’s totally normal! And there are ways to work through it, so you can still get the most of out of your empowering experience.

Step 1: Know that it’s normal

I often like to refer to the boudoir experience like bungee jumping: the concept is way more terrifying than the actual experience. You’re standing at the edge of the platform, and you’re thinking “why the f*ck am I doing this!?” but then you take the leap of faith (booking your shoot), and for a few seconds you’re free falling, and it’s terrifying. But then the rope catches you, and it’s not nearly so scary: fuck it’s even fun! But heeeey guess what, I’m your rope! I will be with you 100% of your session. Do know that it’s fully normal to be a little nervous - but nerves and excitement are psychologically the same feeling. Try flipping the script and leaning into the excitement, and all the positive things that this will bring you.

Step 2: Get out the feelings

Time to grab your notebook or journal! Using stream of consciousness writing techniques can be a great way to release any emotions/tension that your body and mind is holding onto, and allowing to impact your emotions and mental state. Stream of consciousness writing is exactly what it sounds like, you just write whatever your mind is thinking. Get it all on the page, out of your mind and onto the paper.

Step 3: Set an intention

What do you want this experience to do for you? Boudoir is the most powerful experience when you are able to focus on an intention, and call that into your session. You could have multiple intentions, and you intention can even just be as simple as “doing this thing that scares me” or more profound. Whatever works best for you!

Step 4: Write down affirmations

Affirmations are such powerful tools to help invite more positive energy into our lives. You can use these whenever your’e feeling nervous, anxious, or anything less than your highest self. You can use them leading up to your shoot, and even during your shoot - you can repeat them back to yourself to be your own hype girl. Here are some of my favourites:

• I am worthy of celebrating myself exactly as I am

• I am strong, confident, and capable.

• I am deserving of joy, love, and pleasure.

• I am perfect and beautiful just the way I am.

• My body does so much for me and it is wonderful.

Step 5: Breathe or Meditate

Still feeling a tad nervous? Take a deep breath, hold it, let it out, and repeat. If you meditate, try meditating on your affirmations to invite those more deeply into your subconscious.

You got this!
